Mother’s Day is a beautiful holiday not yet widely celebrated in Russia, but in the UK it’s a chance to honour these wonderful women, our extraordinary mothers. So let’s shower them with love and jewels! I’ve put together a sparkly Mother’s Day Gift Guide just for you (and your mum!) I’m lucky to have many things in common with my dear mom. Even though I’ve been living away from home since I was 16, my genetics still play a major role and I’m proud that they do. Here are five facts I love about my relationship with my mom:
But everyone’s mom is unique and special, and deserves something beautiful and sentimental for Mother’s Day. Here are some of my top gift ideas: BIRTHSTONE JEWELLERYA birthstone to bring more positive energy into your mom’s life. A birthstone makes a wonderful gift and there’s an intriguing story behind it too. As you’re presenting your mom with her beautiful birthstone jewel, share with her this story: Once there was a powerful high priest who wore a splendid breastplate adorned with 12 gemstones of great beauty. Each stone represented the birth of 12 noble sons from 12 respected tribes. When astrology gave birth to the zodiac, these 12 gemstones came to represent each birth sign and bestowed healing and special powers upon the wearer. Isn’t that a great story? Hint: If your mom’s birthday is in May, like mine, check out my Emerald Shopping Guide! BIRTHSTONE JEWELLERY IDEAS: MATCHING JEWELLERYMany of us had friendship bracelets when we were kids, but have you ever considered matching jewellery with your mom? It’s a great way to commemorate that special (invisible) connection we have with our mothers. (And a nice way to spoil yourself a little bit too!) Choose something meaningful that represents a happy occasion you shared together. I love these signature lucky bracelets by Carolina Bucci. So reminiscent of the woven bracelets I wore as a child, but fine jewellery! To make a bond with your mom even stronger, consider eternal 18k bracelets with no clasps! You can get them woven directly onto your hands at Liberty London – a fun experience your mother have never done before! MORE BEAUTIFUL JEWELS YOU CAN BUY ONLINE: TRADITIONAL JEWELLERYLockets have been around since the Middle Ages and were worn as a reminder of a loved one. Lockets weren’t just pendants, they were rings and bracelets and other pieces of jewellery. They had an outer beauty but it was the inner secrets lying within that were so attractive. A locket is one of the most intimate pieces of jewellery a person can own and it holds great significance. Giving your mother a locket by Astley Clarke, Monica Rich, Vela or Devon Woodhill with a picture of you or a special secret you share is a beautiful way to stay connected, regardless of how far apart you live. It’s a lovely way to tell your mom how special she is, and she’ll love it! 5 GORGEOUS LOCKETS TO CONSIDER FOR MOTHER’S DAY NECKLACE GIFT IDEAS : PEARL JEWELLERYFor Mother’s Day, pearl jewellery is a timeless classic. Representative of feminine beauty and self-confidence, a gift of pearls is a celebration of love. That lustrous glow that pearls have radiates beauty. Just ask many of my followers who loved the GEMOLOGUE Pearl Giveaway. Mothers are always the ones who want to share their love with everyone, and pearls will remind her just how much she is loved. 5 EFFORTLESSLY ELEGANT PEARL JEWELLERY PRESENT IDEAS: JEWELLERY BOOKSJewellery is not always the answer. Perhaps more affordable option, yet equally exquisite is a jewellery book. You can’t go wrong with it and a jewellery book will definitely add a special sparkle to the Mother’s Day! One of my favourite authors is jewellery historian Joanna Hardy and her Ruby: King of Gems book. If your mom is a fashionista like mine, GEMOLOGUE: Jewellery Street Styles & Styling Tips would be just right to update her on the latest jewellery trends! Discover my Best Jewellery Books of All Time article for more ideas. LOVE ABOVE ALL JEWELLERYTreat your mom to a day at the spa and above all, give her a big hug and a kiss! Gifts of jewellery are nice, but nothing is more valuable than showing your mom how much you truly care. Those precious moments spent together are worth more than material goods! Weddings are in my list of favourite celebrations! Seeing the happy couple side-by-side on a special day, about to embark on a whole new adventure together is one of the best feelings ever! I recently got to experience it again, celebrating the love of Rushang and Kaabia. In the paradise island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam, with three days of the Wedding Carnival ahead of us, I made sure I came prepared! For the second day wedding beach party I decided to go with stylish, yet comfortable Sophia Webster butterfly sandals. I am not a fan of changing shoes during an event – these sandals made sure I survived 12 hours of dancing, while I was still enjoying myself! Jewellery is also an important consideration for a wedding, especially earrings! I wore diamond wing earrings by AS29 – comfortable and a great complement for my outfit. SHOP THE LOOK: To comply with the Indo-western dress code I couldn’t help, but get a gorgeous henna done! I chose to go all shimmery with my outfit, pairing a silver Ganni dress with a silver choker by Michelle Lowe-Holder form her signature costume jewellery collection. Even my makeup was silver, accented with black eyeliner! I decided to really have fun with accessories and wore a beautiful pearl Yvonne Léon ear cuff. Along with H. Stern, Mike Joseph and Brazilian heart-shaped crystal rings, it added a contemporary touch to my outfit. The cuff was holding on securely, so thankfully I had no chance of losing this gold mini french creation! Finishing off with a Bulgari backpack and a traditional Vietnamese hat I got the perfect combination of both comfortable and striking in one wedding guest outfit! The post GET THE LOOK: PHU QUOC, KABANNG WEDDING appeared first on Gemologue. from https://gemologue.com/street-style/get-the-look-phu-quoc-kabanng-wedding/ We all love the sparkle and lustre of a beautiful jewel, but have you ever wondered how each piece is created from start to finish? GEMOLOGUE is bringing you the craftsmanship series aiming to educate and give you an appreciation of the process and how a spectacular jewel comes to life. While other sectors of industry are losing manual skills to automation, jewellery-making stands true its ancestry. I particularly love brands that invest in age-old jewellery-making workshops, conserving traditional techniques and perfecting new ones. THE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF… series will feature design elements, craftsmanship and the labour of love behind every jewel. Discover THE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF… Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen and how the snake pendant came to life! OLE LYNGGAARD COPENHAGENThis family run jewellery brand has the noble distinction of being the appointed jewellery designer for The Royal Danish Court. It is one of the largest fine jewellery workshops in Northern Europe, with more than 45 goldsmiths busily working in the studio.
INSPIRATION BEHIND THE JEWELWhile on his travels to Egypt in the 1960s, Ole Lynggaard ventured into a museum in Cairo and was mesmerized by the exquisitely detailed snake ornaments on display. He felt inspired by the serpent’s beauty and slender elegance, and he created his first snake design for his wife. It has become the brand’s most coveted style: Snakes Collection. Everyone loves the snake wriggling its way along your finger. It’s sensual and reminiscent of contrasting snake symbolism of good and evil, and the struggle to resist temptation. DESIGN PROCESSThe initial step in this design process is creating the first of a series of wax moulds. Each wax mould is crafted by hand and cast again, using tools to grind, polish and refine each sample, until the craftsman is satisfied with the shape and overall structure. The piece is now ready to cast in gold, which is then polished and sent for approval by Ole and Charlotte Lynggaard. Their feedback is vital to the expression and balance of the piece. You want to get the feeling just right, so you can start talking about surfaces and contrasts. The next step is playing with the colours of the gemstones. The goldsmiths set the stones in-house. Extra care is needed with more fragile stones like emeralds. For this jewel the production is the tricky part because it overlaps so much. Working with the master, the cast is divided into several different moulds for a multi-layered effect in the final piece, making sure it follows the same thickness, movement, and feeling as the masterpiece in the collection. CRAFTSMANSHIPPolishing is a very important part of the process and the special tools used. These tools are used to craft precious metals so you can refine the piece to your liking. Modern ways like 3D printing and rapid prototyping is no substitute for how these craftsmen work. You can hear and feel the silver as you work with it and know exactly what’s happening. You can’t get that from a computer that is measured precisely; theoretically correct is not beautiful to the eye and the balance feels unnatural. Balance is all about feeling. By polishing and refining the piece, the craftsman creates the feeling of energy and thrill of a rollercoaster in all the bends and turns of the snake’s body. The hand-satinising is a technique used to create a satin-like effect to the surface of the precious metal. It is quite unique for the studio and all done by hand using special tools like a shading engraver and a very traditional method. Charlotte Lynggaard likes to create satinised surfaces to represent the bark of a tree or the skin of a snake. What you get is this amazing contrast between the polished surface, the satinised surface and the other elements of the piece for a highly sensual finished product. Ole Lynggaard Snakes Collection imagines the whole anatomy of the snake from its round belly to the curve of the spine as it moves. You can feel it moving. The unfinished piece has balance but it’s dull. Satinising brings it to life. This snake pendant is cast separately before being soldered and assembled. When you solder gold together it has to reach a temperature of 700 to 800 degrees Celsius. This is called hot soldering and allows you to join the pieces on a molecular level as opposed to gluing at lower temperatures and working at the surface level. CRAFTSMENIt takes one highly skilled goldsmith to craft the snake pendant from start to finish, which is unusual and unique to the Lynggaard studio. Usually it takes a goldsmith, stone setters and polishers to create one piece, but it’s always been the Lynggaard tradition to dedicate yourself to the whole process putting your heart and soul into each piece. Goldsmiths in Denmark learn the whole process of jewellery-making and is highly competitive. Basic training is four years, but only after 10 years can you make a piece like this. GEMSTONES & GOLDThis green colour heart-shaped cabochon tourmaline works very well with the 18k warm colour yellow gold. Cut and carved to capture the maximum amount of light into the stone and increase the lustre. For a sparkling touch, white diamonds: 0.77mm on the tail, gradually increasing up to 1.30mm in 7 different sizes for a total of about 12 stones to create that shimmering tail effect. All the same size diamonds would loose the movement and the fluidity of the piece. Thanks for stopping by! What do you think of these wonderfully wriggly snakes and how they were created? Discover why I love The Jewels Of Nayibe Warchausky. THE DESIGNER:Nayibe Warchausky is an architect with a Master’s degree in Jewellery Design from the Instituto Europeo di Design in Milano. Born in Venezuela to Russian and Lebanese parents, who both fled their countries to be free from wars and religious laws, Nayibe is truly a global citizen and a third culture child. Her own jewellery brand that she began 10 years ago beautifully reflects her multicultural influences. Drawing inspiration from the cities where she lived, Nayibe’s breathtaking contemporary jewels encompass the glassmaking tradition of Murano and the architecture style of Russian Constructivism. Almost like micro-sculptures, sustainable and beautifully fragile, her rings leave admirers in a complete awe! And I was no exception! I can’t think of a better designer and beautiful soul to win my first-ever GEMOLOGUE award at Artistar Jewels!
THE DETAILS:So much originality in these rings by Nayibe Warchausky, I just love them! She revitalises notions of the Venetian Murano glassmaking tradition by blending age-old techniques with modern technology, creating optical depths and tridimensional facets. With a passionate dedication towards experimenting and exploring the properties of Murano crystal, Nayibe has spent long hours learning from the best Venetian glassmakers. Her ultimate signature technique is a sublime mixture of exaltation for the glass and its voluptuous, geometrical and luxurious nature. The crystal rings are created by melting and cooling silicate mixtures to give the same depth and quality as a diamond. Using different faceting and cutting techniques on various compositions of transparency, hues and settings, Nayibe creates visual depth and ethereal beauty that changes with the light. All of Nayibe’s rings are fused and sculpted in Italy from the millenary wisdom inherited by the best Venetian glassmaking families. The 18k gold logo attachés add the final exquisite touch to all of her jewels. WHY I LOVE IT:Whenever I encounter beautiful jewellery made of glass, it’s a special experience. Glass jewels have a powerful symbolism; they are a metaphor of life – precious and fragile, just like the world we live in. This fragility is very attractive to me. I have always been passionate about Murano glass and the ability of the craftsmen who create these beautiful jewels. Nayibe has also developed an unique mixture combining glass and precious stones like lapis lazuli for an extra shot of colour and a beautiful shade of blue. Another reason to love it: this GEMOLOGUE award winner supports local artisans of Murano island and also uses recycled glass, making her jewels not only an extraordinarily attractive embellishment but also a sustainable choice. It’s so rewarding to be a part of Nayibe’s jewellery journey and give her wonderful sculptural jewels the exposure they deserve! Deconstructed Universe ring – a flawless balance between matter and form. Handcrafted with Murano crystal and embellished with 18k rose gold and lapis lazuli gemstone. Scaglie Caviar ring – micro sculptural symmetry. Handmade with Murano crystal by melting and cooling mixtures of silicates, finished with crystal gold caviar and 18k gold emblem. What do you think of these glass gems? Let me know in the comments below. I am extremely happy to announce that my new jewelry book – GEMOLOGUE: Street Jewellery Styles & Styling Tips – is now on Amazon. I’m so excited. The post THE JEWELS OF: NAYIBE WARCHAUSKY, SUSTAINABLE ART JEWELLERY, GEMOLOGUE AWARD WINNER ARTISTAR JEWELS appeared first on Gemologue. from https://gemologue.com/designers/the-jewels-of-nayibe-warchausky-sustainable-art-jewellery-gemologue-award-winner-artistar-jewels/ So many fantastic jewellery events happening around the world during fashion weeks, it’s just too exciting. From Copenhagen Fashion Week and Scandi jewellery at The Jewellery Room to Milan Fashion Week and 140 contemporary, emerging jewellery artists and designers at Artistar Jewels 2019. Who will win the GEMOLOGUE Jewellery Award at Artistar Jewels this year? More than 400 modern jewellery artists from all over the world entered to win the Artistar Jewels Award Italy 2019. Together with other jury members, I had the difficult task of narrowing the winners down to just three amazing designs. Congratulations to Brazilian designer Bia Tambelli, Korean sculptor Sowon Joo and Russian artist Veronika Kuryanova. The winners were chosen based on the artistic value, technical skills, design, originality and technological innovation. The winners’ designs will be available for sale online at artistarjewels.com. I’ve already laid my eyes on some beautiful jewels! For the winner of the GEMOLOGUE jewellery award, I focused on the originality of the design, technique, skill, unique craftsmanship, and wearability, as well as sustainability and the life and soul behind the jewel. Stay tuned for my next article dedicated solely to the Artist Jewels 2019 GEMOLOGUE award winner! For more contemporary jewellery from last year, check out my previous visit to Artistar Jewels exhibition in Milan. After careful consideration I would like to share with you my GEMOLOGUE curation of the top ten contemporary jewellery designers at Artistar Jewels: BIA TAMBELLIIf you’ve read my “10 Things to Know about Brazilian Jewellery Style”, you could instantly see the strong signature and powerful energy in the jewels of Bia. We have a lot of things in common: love for Brazil and a passion for beautiful stones and jewels since childhood. Bia pays homage to the symbolic value of the gemstones in her creations, placing them at the centre of the jewel’s balanced aesthetic. This Trindade Bracelet instantly attracted me, due to my love for spiritual jewellery! The 18k gold and diamond pyramid structures with mini citruses on top express an intellectual and spiritual order, invigorating the wearer with a feeling of clarity, so fundamental for spiritual growth. ANASTASIA DUBROVAStill a student at the prestigious Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Design and Applied Arts at the Art Metal Department, Anastasia has already shone at several Russian competitions and has now debuted at Artistar Jewels 2019. A young and talented jewellery designer, she has shaken up the competition with two sleek minimalist rings. Her Roly-Poly doll-toy-inspired ring is the quintessence of smoothness and fluidity with polished metal and a spherical stone playing with light to create the unity of form and content. In contrast, Anastasia’s Portal ring is a harmonious marriage of opposites: sleek and edgy forms in a single whole whole.
FRANCESCA PAOLINA skilled designer from Latin America, Ecuador with work experience in the UK and a mind-blowing creative flow, Francesca’s style is unmistakable! Combining 3D technologies and handmade craftsmanship, her work presents an avant-garde aesthetic halfway between Brit Pop and tropical exotics. Crafted from nylon and metal alloy and dyed by hand, these red Circle Feather earrings have a futuristic look and other-worldly vibe, yet they are a mix of inspiration stemming from ancient Mayan cultures and the Amazonia rainforest to Venice and the delicate art of lacemaking. A modern statement and light as a feather! STANISLAV DROKINThis Ukranian designer, jeweller, gemologist and engraver has drawn me in with his titanium works. In a search for new forms and colour combinations his workshop becomes a creative laboratory producing one-of-a-kind contemporary design pieces with an abundance of sparkling gemstones! This Nest ring with quartz, diamonds and sapphires evokes my love for the striking titanium jewellery of Wallace Chan. The inspiration behind this ring explores the meaning of homeland and the borders that divide us. Art has no limits and transcends these boundaries, touching the lives of other cultures. NAYIBE WARCHAUSKYThe proud winner of my GEMOLOGUE Award at Artistar Jewels 2019! An architect and jeweller by profession, Nayibe strives for the breathtaking balance between matter and form. Her jewellery encompasses so many layers of cultural significance: the way she experiments with Italian Murano crystal, how she’s inspired by the architectural movement of Constructivism, and how it all ties into her Russian origins developed in Venezuela. These rings just blow my mind! Handmade and created by melting and cooling silicate mixtures, these crystal rings have tridimensional facets for a boundless, intergalactic effect. A balanced mix of craftsmanship and modernity, almost like wearable micro-sculptures, whose extraordinary detail had me entranced. ANNA MACCIERI ROSSIWith an impressive history of working with big brands like Cartier, Bulgari and Tiffany & Co. Watches, Anna is perhaps the most experienced designer of all. Only recently has she decided to create her own line using the finest materials to create these jewels of elegant modernity. Her jewellery designs and beautiful colours sent my imagination into a spin of dancing jewels! This ring is just one example from a stunning array of dreamy jewels showcased at the Artistar Jewels competition. Crafted from white gold, mother-of-pearl, labradorite and diamond, this ring tells the story of a wolf howling at the moon, representing strength and unity between nature and living beings. JESSICA PASSOf course I couldn’t leave out a British designer with a love for nature-inspired jewels! Growing up in Peak District, Jessica found inspiration in her beautiful surroundings, drawing and painting the birds and insects that inhabited it. Her talent derives from a natural fascination with the mechanics of things that reflects well in her jewels. She loves the hidden details and creating unseen elements. Just look at this elaborate Cicada necklace! All metalwork from sterling silver, yellow gold plate, black ruthenium and golden beryl, the body of an insect opens to reveal a miniature figure inside. The Flying Cicada ring complements this piece perfectly and sits dramatically on the hand looking almost alive. ANASTASIA KUCHERENKOI was delighted to see so many talented artists from my home country Russia exhibiting their unique creations at Artistar Jewels 2019! Anastasia started her journey as a jewellery artist and designer at a young age, later becoming a professional in art and design and creating her own brand of custom jewels. Her work is all about resourceful creativity and developing an idea, rather than focusing solely on the materials. These Pomegranate earrings with cabochon garnets, sapphires and diamonds look just so natural and organic to me. An array of gemstones sparkling in the sun as if I have just cut a slice of ripe pomegranate, rich and red, to adorn my ears! NINA OIKAWATokyo born and Melbourne based jeweller, Nina has studied Gold and Silversmithing at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Nina is a jewellery artist at heart, whose passion for drawing and designing began in early childhood. She brings a fun, noble character and eccentricity to her jewellery designs. This is definitely not your average cocktail ring, but a statement I could definitely pull off at an exquisite party! Yet, the idea behind this opulent lapis lazuli, ruby and Akoya pearl ring is delicate and tender. The visual movement represents the soft warm spring winds bringing beautiful cherry blossom to life. DENIS SOZINTo cap it all off, Russian contemporary jewellery artist Denis Sozin blew me away with his creativity! Expressing his worldview in jewels, he creates a whole new realm of thoughts, senses, feelings, dreams and wishes. His works are true art, making you wonder and actively seek explanation to every meticulously crafted detail. Glasses necklace is a creative experiment, showing an ordinary object in the new light and giving me this extraordinary steam punk feel. Using sterling silver, titanium, steel, leather, lattes, Swarovski crystals and enamel, Denis turns it into glasses of childhood, where unconditional happiness and colourful fantasies rule our imagination! Time to share beautiful jewellery in action! 1st Jewellery Look – Pearl QueenWith pearls and costume jewellery coming together, there’s no chance I would’ve missed creating this look! A hint of white and a trace of pearls in each jewel bring different styles together in one classy colour palette as you can never go wrong with white! People crave attention so they decorate themselves with fabulous and eye catching costume jewels, such as those of Iradj Moini. “Aquamarine & Chalcedony Snake Cuff” with mother of pearl, Iradj Moini 2nd Jewellery Look – Costume StatementJewellery is a great conversation starter, and Iradj Moini striking costume jewels say it all for you! Wear statement costume jewellery at weddings and evening events to create a stir and to add a playful touch to your evening dress. This works particularly well when dress code rules are strict: costume jewellery will make your outfit shine! “Fall-Inspired Butterfly Cuff” with fluorite, agate, carnelian and emerald, Iradj Moini 3rd Jewellery Look – Coral ParureQuality hand-made costume jewellery has become the embodiment of design and craftsmanship rather than intrinsically valuable materials. Since the crazy 1920s flappers styled their outfits with MANY trendy costume jewels of that time because they became widely available and more affordable than fine jewels. That’s why costume jewellery has no rules – and I love it! The more costume jewels you wear the better, and parures are also more than welcome. Just look at this coral set I’m wearing for your inspiration! “Carnelian Tassel Earrings” with carnelian, lemon quartz, citrine, amethyst and Swarovski crystals, Iradj Moini Thanks for stopping by! The post JEWELLERY STYLING TIPS VIDEO: HOW TO STYLE COSTUME JEWELLERY WITH IRADJ MOINI appeared first on Gemologue. from https://gemologue.com/street-style/jewellery-styling-tips-video-how-to-style-costume-jewellery-with-iradj-moini/ Brazil, here I come again! Last time I visited Sao Paulo, we shot the campaign for Botanica jewellery collection for Silvia Furmanovich. I am back in Brazil to celebrate my Gemologue: Street Jewellery Styles & Styling Tips book launch with my Brazilian followers and jewellery lovers alike. Recently, I was invited to give a talk at Feninjer Jewelry Show Brazil – the largest and most important jewellery industry event in Latin America! This month, Feninjer brought together industry professionals, designers and jewellery lovers for the 69th time in Sao Paulo. Along with five other speakers, I shared my knowledge on the current hot topics and trends in the jewellery industry! I gave a talk followed by a Q&A session about why jewellery should matter today and shared useful jewellery styling tips for photography as well as for accessorising looks. I also talked through some important trends and tendencies the jewellery market is experiencing right now! Below are 10 current jewellery industry trends we all should be aware of: DIGITAL & SECOND-HANDTraditionally reluctant to fully embrace digital retail, manufacturers and retailers are gradually changing their approach, selling directly to consumers, selling online and through second hand jewellery websites. The share of internet jewellery retailing is set to increase further. TECHNOLOGYFrom product development such as 3D printing and to distribution, digitalisation is the most important trend shaping jewellery industry. SUSTAINABILITYConsumers and press started to question where jewellery comes from and how it is made — Fairtrade gold, lab grown diamonds, ethically-sourced stones. More and more consumers are curious about the provenance of each piece of jewellery they buy. SYNTHETIC DIAMONDSThere is growing appreciation of synthetic diamonds. Man-made diamonds, the polar opposite of the organic, benefit the environment, humanity, science and art and are becoming a major concept. CONSUMER LOYALTY AND CONFIDENCEThere has been an increase in numbers of boutiques, showrooms or pop ups because when it comes to purchasing jewellery consumers want to see and feel before buying. For jewellery brands and online shops which are primarily online, the main focus is to reinforce consumer loyalty and confidence. FOCUS NOT ONLY ON MILLENNIALSWhile it is important to think about millennials and understand how to keep your business relevant to the next generation of consumers, let’s not forget consumers aged 35-50 have a stronger spending power and desire for authenticity. SOCIAL PRESSUREJewellery sales are set to increase because there is a social pressure to look trendy and good. Social media is playing a major role in this as it makes women more aware of fashion, jewellery and image. PERSONALISED JEWELLERYDespite the success of mass-produced high-street fashion, there is a growing demand for personalised and unique jewellery. AFFORDABLE LUXURYDemi-fine jewellery and costume jewellery are popular not only among consumers on tighter budgets, but also appeal to the younger jewellery lovers, looking to buy jewellery more often and on-trend. COSTUME JEWELLERYThe blurring line between fine and costume jewellery using precious metals, refined design and a affordable pricing. Thank you to all my Brazilian followers and talk guests, who came to support me at this event, I was so happy to see the sparkle in your eyes and your endless enthusiasm for the world of jewellery! Join me at my next talk I will give together with The Jewellery Cut during London Fashion week on 18th February 2019! Click this link to get your ticket – only a few left!

The post 10 JEWELLERY INDUSTRY TRENDS TO KNOW: LIZA URLA TALK AT FENINJER, SAO PAULO appeared first on Gemologue. from https://gemologue.com/fairs/10-jewellery-industry-trends-to-know-liza-urla-talk-at-feninjer-sao-paulo/ Let’s celebrate Valentine’s Day this year by pampering ourselves with a little self-love and pearls. Nothing brightens the face quite like the lustrous glow of a pearl. And in the GEMOLOGUE Universe, you’ll find lots of inspiration and pearl style for that perfect gift. Throughout history, women and pearls have embodied the very notion of glamour and sophistication. With so many symbolic meanings, pearls are hard to neglect. Cleopatra was one of the first women to bring pearls into the spotlight as a symbol of wealth and power. In a bold spectacle of extravagance one night at dinner, she challenged her guests to the most expensive meal ever. She then took off one of her pearl earrings and dissolved it in vinegar before downing the exquisite drink in one go. I’d love to see the look on her guests’ faces at that very moment! For the women of Venice, pearls were more of a symbol of romance. Brave pearl divers risked their necks looking for these precious gems, just so some beautiful woman could wear a delicate strand of pearls around her fine neck. In later centuries, the women of nobility wore pearls as a symbol of status, elegance and femininity, as noted by the jewellery lovers of my recent Instagram pearl giveaway. What unites all these stories? For women everywhere, pearls are a celebration of self-love that can instantly put a confident smile and a luminescent glow of delight on your face! So celebrate this year’s Day of Love by spoiling yourself to the special gift of pearls. Pearls can be edgy and give you a look of power and confidence, romance and tenderness, as well as elegance and femininity. A pearl will bring out your best qualities and become a gem of self-expression, whatever that might be. Take a look at all the amazing styles below in the GEMOLOGUE shopping gift guide! Dainty PearlsMy beloved dainty trend is in full swing! Just check out my Instagram curation! Plenty of Annoushka jewellery with beautiful designs featuring pearls. My favourite is definitely the 18k gold butterfly earrings with pearl drops from the same collection as the necklace I wore for my bridal ceremony! Keep an eye out for Maria Tash, who has been perfecting the art of piercing and jewellery-making since 1993. She has some of the cutest pearl designs available on NET-A-PORTER! And finally, one of my favourite designers, Yvonne Léon. There’s just something fabulously Parisienne about everything she touches. I’m so in love with this ear cuff I’ve added it to my personal collection; it makes me feel playful and beautiful! Pearl ChokersPearl chokers are timeless and modern all at the same time. The first choker I have for you is the David Morris piece with four flexible rows of graduated cultured pearls. I chose this choker for my Sotheby’s Jewellery Curation. It would make any woman look at herself in a different light. The second choker is the absolutely gorgeous vintage Marina B pearl choker with seven strands of pearls, centered by a geometric onyx and rubellite motif embellished with diamonds. I have a lifetime fascination with Marina B chokers! See for yourself on Moda Operandi! As for the natural pearl designs, look no farther than Azza Fine Jewellery of Bahrain. She has the cutest modern chokers! Contemporary PearlsJewellery design is constantly evolving, so peals will never be old-fashioned. Ana Khouri’s sculptural designs are so innovative, she really thinks outside of the box when it comes to creating new ways to wear pearl jewellery. Her high jewellery collection that I discovered during Paris Couture Week is also worth a look! And what about the pearls from the jewellery brand Mizuki, which I tried on at COUTURE in Las Vegas! The fresh pearl designs took my breath away, and their chokers are to die for! Take a look on Net-A-Porter! Designer Melanie Georgacopoulos adds a surprising and fresh approach to her mother-of-pearl jewellery. Check out her Instagram for the most innovative ideas in pearl jewellery. I’ve even added it to my top Instagram accounts to follow! Hygge PearlsThe Jewellery Room gives you a dazzling array of contemporary pearl jewels with Scandinavian flavour. You’ll find jewellery designers brimming with stunning and creative pearl jewellery ideas, imagined by only the finest Danish craftsmanship. My Jewellery Room curation features designers like MaryLou, Pernille Lauridsen and Ole Lynggaard. My favourite pearl design is this beautiful shooting star ring. It reminds me of women everywhere who have the confidence to reach for the stars! Fine pearlsMany of my best-loved fine jewellery brands have some beautiful pearl pieces that are youthful and avant-garde. My favourite is the La Perla collection by Mike Joseph, with its sensual shapes and beauty enhancing qualities. Even high jewellery brand Chaumet that I previewed during Paris Couture Week has recently re-imagined it’s Josephine collection to showcase pearls in an unexpected and magical way! Fashion pearlsIf you prefer your pearls to be in the height of fashion, check the Farfertch pearl section! From my go-to Nicholas Kirkwood pearl shoes to a glowing array of pearl decorated bags, sunglasses and even T-shirts, your inner pearl lover will not be disappointed. If you’re looking for budget-friendly pearl options to celebrate your Day of Self-Love, take a look at some costume jewellery brands like Ellery Jewellery, Chloe and Y Project, which I wore at El Lodge Marbella. Welcome to GEMOLOGUE jewellery styling video series: chic jewellery looks to inspire you based on the top tips from GEMOLOGUE: Street Jewellery Styles & Styling Tips book. Time to share beautiful jewellery in action! 1st Jewellery Look – Coco cuffsThe highlight of this look is undoubtedly the gorgeous Fulco Verdura Theodora Cuff created for Verdura’s 75th Anniversary. Inspired by the original Maltese Cross Cuffs that Verdura designed for Chanel in the 1930s, they create an empowering black look! Keep in mind: when you’re wearing big statement cuffs, keep the rings to a minimum (just like I did with one simple Copa Ring in black jade and 18k yellow gold). Italian style black onyx shell earclips are perfect to complete this statement look. The “Theodora” Cuff, Verdura 18K Yellow Gold And Black Jade “Copa” Ring, Verdura Small Black Onyx And Citrine Flat Turban Shell Earclips, Verdura 2nd Jewellery Look – Floral cabochonsCabochons are what makes this look striking! Matching Stardust Earclips with diamonds and blue star sapphires to beautiful diamonds and fourteen oval cabochon sapphires in Hyacinth Bracelet. Growing up with an exotic garden in Sicily, Verduraa was awed by plant life, later incorporating favourite species in his jewellery designs. Finish off this floral look with an array of cocktail rings if you’re up for an occasion, or go without them for a more relaxed style. Pair Of Blue Star Sapphire And Diamond “Stardust” Cluster Earclips, Verdura Sapphire, Gold And Diamond “Hyacinth” Bracelet, Verdura Gold, White Topaz And Pink Tourmaline “Candy” Ring, Verdura Yellow Gold, Cabochon Star Sapphire & Russian Emerald “Mosaic” Ring, Verdura Gold And Sapphire “Basketweave” Ring, Verdura Vintage Kunzite, Diamond, Gold And Platinum “Two-Blades” Ring, Verdura 3rd Jewellery Look – Golden madnessMixing metals is very en vogue, however if you go for large statement pieces make sure the metals match! Wearing all yellow gold jewels for my third jewellery look, the matching Verdura caged ring and bracelet are my favourites – inspired by rope work of fishermen nets and willed with faceted rock crystals. Finishing this look with a statement 18k yellow gold Lily Bracelet adored by Marlene Dietrich back in the days. Gold And Rock Crystal “Caged” Ring, Verdura, Gold “Lily” Bracelet, Verdura Gold And Ruby “Medusa” Ring, Verdura Gold And Rock Crystal “Caged” Cuff, Verdura Gold And Diamond Basketweave Ring, Verdura Pair Of Gold, Enamel And Diamond “Star” Earclips, Verdura Which look of my jewellery styling video is your favourite?
